Investing in Women

We are proud to support the advancement of women in business and law.

Our programs foster communities that champion and promote women leaders — at Blakes, in business and in the legal profession.

The Women@Blakes network provides support, mentorship, work/life resources, client development and networking opportunities to women legal professionals at Blakes. Our commitment to advancing women, however, extends well beyond our Firm. Over the years, we have expanded our programming to focus on providing our clients and the legal profession more broadly with professional development opportunities that champion the role of women in law and in business.

This initiative helps mid-level and senior-level women associates and patent agents at Blakes build business development skills with an emphasis on networking. Each month, participants meet with two senior women in the Firm to share ideas and help develop best-in-class business development skills. The program is national in scope and serves as a platform for sharing experiences across offices and practice areas.

Blakes is a founding sponsor and continues to participate in The Judy Project, which supports executive and senior-level women in leadership roles within Canadian businesses and organizations. Blakes has also partnered with Rotman and the University of Toronto on a two-day intensive program specifically designed to help women lawyers in years five to seven build professional confidence and acquire relevant business skills to advance and succeed in the legal environment.
