Firm Leadership
Blakes is focused on building long-term client relationships. We understand the client perspective — the need for responsive legal advice, top-ranked expertise, creativity and value. We also understand that our commitment to provide all of this is only possible through teamwork guided by integrity and principles of honesty, accountability and consistency — and most importantly, under the tutelage of great leadership.
Our Chair, Brock Gibson, is the first leader to hail from one of the Firm's offices in Western Canada. Based in Calgary, Brock has been lead counsel on more than 150 mergers and acquisitions. Most recently, he's been at the centre of many major energy deals, including Suncor/Petro-Canada, Enerplus/Focus, Canetic/Penn West, and Progress/ProEx.
Robert Granatstein has been Firm Managing Partner since 2001. Prior to this role, he was Deputy Managing Partner for three years. His areas of practice focus on general corporate matters, venture capital and merchant banking transactions, joint ventures, acquisitions and dispositions of businesses, and on the preparation and negotiation of a broad variety of commercial contracts. In recent years, Rob has also been very involved in the Firm's procurement practice, China practice and India practice.
Blakes also has Office Managing Partners in each of its offices.
