Blakes Welcomes Prominent Pension & Employee Benefits Lawyer

TORONTO (November 2, 2007) – Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes), one of Canada’s leading business law firms, today announced that Deron P. Waldock has joined its Pension & Employee Benefits Group as a Partner.

“Deron has extensive experience and is well-known in the industry,” said Jim Christie, Chairman of Blakes. “He will be a great addition to our Pension & Employee Benefits Group and I welcome him to Blakes.”

Mr. Waldock advises on all legal issues relating to pension and employee benefits plans, including fiduciary duties, plan redesign proposals, ongoing plan administration and compliance issues. He also deals extensively with pension and benefit issues arising in corporate transactions such as acquisitions, divestitures, mergers and corporate reorganizations, and has managed the Canadian pension, benefits and compensation aspects of many large transactions. In addition, he advises on the establishment and implementation of incentive compensation arrangements, including stock option, phantom stock, share appreciation rights, deferred share unit plans, employees profit sharing plans and supplementary retirement plans. He is a regular contributor to industry publications and his articles have been published in Benefits Canada, Compensation & Benefits Update, Pension Planning, Journal of Taxation of Executive Compensation and Retirement and the Lancaster House Pension and Benefits E-Bulletin. He is also a frequent speaker at industry events. Before coming to Blakes, Mr. Waldock was a partner with Bennett Jones LLP in Toronto.
